5-Day Icelandic Adventure with Rijo Campers

Day 1: Reykjavik to Þingvellir National Park

Morning: Pick up your Rijo Campers vehicle in Reykjavik. I recommend the comfortable and spacious Renault Trafic for this journey. Explore Reykjavik’s charming streets and vibrant culture.
Afternoon: Drive to Þingvellir National Park (about 1-hour drive). This UNESCO World Heritage Site is where the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates meet. Witness the stunning Almannagjá gorge and the serene Öxarárfoss waterfall.
Evening: Set up camp at the Þingvellir Camping Ground, offering great facilities amidst nature's tranquility.
Day 2: Geysir and Gullfoss

Morning: Head towards the Geysir Geothermal Area (about 1-hour drive). Witness the Strokkur geyser erupting every few minutes.
Afternoon: Visit the majestic Gullfoss waterfall that is just a 10-minutes drive from Geysir. Its powerful cascades are a sight to behold.
Evening: Camp at the nearby Hamragarðar Camping Ground. Enjoy the evening under the Icelandic sky.
Day 3: South Coast – Seljalandsfoss and Skógafoss

Morning: Drive along the scenic south coast to Seljalandsfoss (about 1.5 hours). Walk behind this unique waterfall for a thrilling experience.
Afternoon: Continue to Skógafoss, one of Iceland’s biggest waterfalls, just 30 minutes away. Climb the adjacent staircase for a breathtaking view.
Evening: Camp at Skógar Camping, a peaceful location with excellent facilities and views.
Day 4: Vík and Reynisfjara

Morning: Head to the charming village of Vík (about 30 minutes). Explore its beautiful beaches and the famous Reynisfjara black sand beach with its striking basalt columns.
Afternoon: Enjoy hiking or bird watching in the area. Visit the Dyrhólaey lighthouse for panoramic views of the Atlantic.
Evening: Camp at Vík Camping, ideally located for exploring the village and surrounding nature.
Day 5: Return to Reykjavik via the Golden Circle

Morning: Start your journey back to Reykjavik, but not without exploring more of the Golden Circle. The Kerið volcanic crater lake is a must-see.
Afternoon: Enjoy a leisurely drive back to Reykjavik, stopping at any missed attractions or simply to admire the landscape.
Evening: Return your Rijo Camper in Reykjavik. Spend your last night in the city reflecting on your unforgettable Icelandic adventure.

7 days tour

Day 1:

  • Start your journey in Reykjavik, the capital and largest city of Iceland. Spend the day exploring the city and its many attractions, such as the Hallgrimskirkja church, the Perlan museum, and the Harpa concert hall.

  • In the evening, drive your campervan to the Golden Circle, an area famous for its natural beauty and cultural attractions. Set up camp for the night at a nearby campsite or in a designated campervan parking area.

Day 2:

  • Spend the day exploring the Golden Circle, starting with a visit to Thingvellir National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site known for its unique geology and rich history.

  • Next, visit Gullfoss, one of Iceland’s most famous waterfalls, and the nearby geothermal area of Geysir, where you can see the Strokkur geyser erupt every few minutes.

  • In the afternoon, drive to the small town of Fludir and visit the Secret Lagoon, a natural geothermal pool that is perfect for soaking after a day of sightseeing. Set up camp for the night in Fludir or the surrounding area.

Day 3:

  • Head east and drive along the south coast of Iceland, taking in the stunning views of the coastline and the many waterfalls and black sand beaches along the way.

  • Make a stop at the Seljalandsfoss waterfall, which you can walk behind, and the Skogafoss waterfall, which is one of the largest and most impressive in the country.

  • In the evening, set up camp at a campsite or designated campervan parking area in the Vatnajökull National Park area.

Day 4:

  • Spend the day exploring the Vatnajökull National Park, home to Iceland’s largest glacier and many other natural wonders.

  • Take a guided tour of the Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon, where you can see huge icebergs floating in the water, or go hiking in the park’s rugged landscape.

  • In the evening, set up camp at a campsite or designated campervan parking area in the Vatnajökull National Park area.

Day 5:

  • Drive to the east coast of Iceland and visit the small town of Egilsstadir. Spend the day exploring the surrounding area, including the nearby lake of Lagarfljot and the Hengifoss waterfall.

  • Set up camp for the night at a campsite or designated campervan parking area in the area.

Day 6:

  • Drive to the north of Iceland and visit the city of Akureyri, the second largest city in the country. Spend the day exploring the city and its many attractions, such as the Akureyri Art Museum and the Godafoss waterfall.

  • Set up camp for the night at a campsite or designated campervan parking area in the area.

Day 7:

  • Drive back to Reykjavik, stopping along the way to visit any attractions you may have missed on the first day of your trip.

  • Return your campervan and spend the evening exploring the city and its many restaurants, bars, and cultural attractions.

10 days tour

Day 1: Arrival in Reykjavik and pickup of your campervan. Spend the day exploring the city and getting settled in. In the evening, head to one of the local restaurants to try some traditional Icelandic food.

Day 2: Start your journey around the Golden Circle. Visit Thingvellir National Park, Gullfoss waterfall, and the Geysir geothermal area. Spend the night at a campsite in the nearby town of Selfoss.

Day 3: Drive to the Vatnajökull National Park and spend the day exploring the glacier. Go ice climbing, glacier hiking, or take a boat ride on the glacial lagoon. In the evening, find a campsite near the park to spend the night.

Day 4: Drive to the Blue Lagoon and spend the day relaxing in the geothermal spa. In the evening, find a campsite near the lagoon to spend the night.

Day 5: Head to the eastern fjords and spend the day exploring the beautiful landscapes and small towns. Spend the night at a campsite in the region.

Day 6: Continue your journey through the eastern fjords and visit some of the local attractions, such as the Hofn Glacier Museum or the Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon. Spend the night at a campsite in the region.

Day 7: Drive to the north of the island and visit some of the stunning waterfalls, such as Dettifoss and Goðafoss. Spend the night at a campsite in the region.

Day 8: Head to the Mývatn region and spend the day exploring the beautiful lake and its surrounding attractions, such as the Grjótagjá hot springs and the Hverir geothermal area. Spend the night at a campsite in the region.

Day 9: Drive back to Reykjavik and spend the day exploring the city. In the evening, visit the famous Northern Lights Observatory to try and catch a glimpse of the aurora borealis. Spend the night at a campsite in the city.

Day 10: Return your campervan and prepare for your flight home.
